Painkiller – T-ara, The Seeya, 5Dolls, SPEED

Painkiller is a catchy song, with a sad meaning…about being unable to ease the heartache of a break-up. Jiyeon acts in the MV for this digital single, a collaboration between T-ara’s Soyeon, The Seeya’s Yoojin, 5Dolls’ Eunkyo and SPEED’s Taewoon and Sungmin. The project album, Tears of Mind was released on June 10 under CCM (core Contents Media). I like the music, but am in no way in favour of suicide…especially because of lost love (which is, so often temporal anyway).

Davichi ft. Verbal Jint – Be Warmed (from Mystic Ballad album)

The lovely voices of Lee Haeri and Kang Minkyung of Davichi are accompanied by Verbal jint, who wrote this hip-hop ballad song, the first time he has ever written a song for another artist. It is part of their 2nd full length album, Mystic Ballad. The MV was released on April 1st 2013, in appropriate timing for spring.

Taeyeon – And One (That Winter The Wind Blows OST Part 5)

Taeyeon, the leader of SNSD Girls Generation, sings this lovely song about pained love in That Winter, The Wind Blows. It was released on March 13, 2013 and is the 5th (and latest) song in the OST, following Yesung’s Gray Paper, The One’s Winter Love, Gummy’s Snowflake and Kim Boa’s Tears Fallin’.

I enjoyed transcribing this piece very much, and must admit that I did allow myself to make it a little more challenging (because of all the pretty harmonies and counter melodies I just HAD to include hehe!). I’m considering making an accompaniment version (minus the melody)…please let me know if you think I should ok?

JJ Lin林俊傑 – Practice love修煉愛情 (10 Untold Stories album)

I stumbled upon this beautiful song with its animated MV in my ‘trending videos’ list sometime last week (March 1, 2013) and decided straight away that I had to cover it! It’s my first Mandopop song, but certainly not my last, as I’m now a fan of JJ Lin’s 🙂 The pop ballad, which is written and produced by JJ (Lin Jun Jie), is dedicated to the victims of the SilkAir Flight MI 185 crash in 1997, which killed all 104 people on board, one of whom was a close friend of JJ’s during grade school.

The animated MV, set in a futuristic earth, tells the story of a computer programmer (Jean) who loses his botanist girlfriend in a spaceship accident. Missing her dearly, he creates a program that allows his memories of his girlfriend to form into physical images, bringing her back into virtual existence. Jean’s program becomes a success, helping those who have lost loved ones to live in their memories again; however his invention causes many to be unable to distinguish between reality and memory. Touching….and bittersweet.

Park Shin Hye – Pitch Black (Flower Boy Next Door OST Part 4)

tvN’s popular series, Flower Boy Next Door, has the show’s main actress, Park Shin Hye, singing this sweet and quiet song. It expresses her character’s self-imposed solitude and delicateness. The 2013 romantic comedy TV series stars Park Shin Hye as a lonely girl who never ventures outdoors, but is caught spying on her neighbour in the apartment opposite by a different guy. Their weird relationship eventually draws her out of her shell.
